a US company that makes aircraft. Its well-known passenger planes include the Boeing 707, Boeing 737 and Boeing 747 (the ‘jumbo jet’). In 1997 it joined other companies to create a satellite for the Internet. William Boeing (1881–1956) began the company in 1917, and its main offices are in Seattle.
