a novel (1932) by Aldous Huxley. It is set in the future, when there have been many scientific advances but people have no personal freedom. People sometimes use the phrase brave new world to refer to present societies like this, or to refer humorously to something new and unknown I'm a bit sceptical about the brave new world of community policing promised by the government.
