(used with an adverb) a way of referring to somebody who has a disability of some sort a competition for physically challenged athletes (humorous) I'm financially challenged at the moment (= I have no money). Challenged was intended to be a polite way of referring to somebody with a disability but it soon came to be used in a humorous way and is now no longer considered very polite.
