Frank Winfield Woolworth (1852-1919) a US businessman, the son of a poor farmer, who began the group of five-and-ten shops/stores named after him. The first was opened in 1879 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and when he died, there were more than 1 000. see also Woolworth Building
