any of the buses of the Greyhound Lines Company, the largest US bus company operating between towns and cities. It was established in 1914 and took its present name in 1930 because the buses were painted grey and had a smooth design. They have become part of US life, and one country music song has the title Thank God and Greyhound She's Gone.
