a large, expensive department store (= large shop where many types of goods are sold in different departments) in Knightsbridge, London. It was started by Benjamin Harvey in 1831 and has been in its present building since 1880. Harvey Nichols is known for selling fashionable clothes and for its Fifth Floor restaurant. It is often referred to by its nickname, Harvey Nicks. There are also Harvey Nichols shops in other British cities including Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and Liverpool, as well as shops in various cities across the world.
