an international company, originally founded in 1869 and based in Pittsburgh in the US, that makes a large range of food, including baked beans, soup and baby food. Heinz tomato ketchup (= sauce) is very popular in many countries. At one time the number 57 on Heinz products was supposed to show the number of varieties of food produced by the company but it was never an accurate figure and the company now sells over five thousand types of food.
