a member of a Protestant religious group living mainly in the US states of South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana, and also in Alberta in Canada. The Hutterites were established in 1533 in Moravia in Czechoslovakia as a division of the Anabaptists, and are named after Jacob Hutter. Their way of life is similar to that of the Mennonites. It includes common ownership of property and a refusal to use violence.
