special clothes worn by pupils at a particular school. Wearing school uniform is a British tradition and is rarely found in the US. In most schools pupils have to wear clothes of a particular colour, often navy blue or dark green, but are free to choose the clothes themselves. Other schools, especially private schools, require pupils to wear special clothes which have to be bought from a particular shop. School uniform often includes a special striped tie in the school colours for both girls and boys. At very traditional schools, for example old public schools like Eton, pupils may have to wear very old-fashioned clothes in a style that dates from the 19th century or even earlier.
