a popular British radio programme broadcast six days a week that presents a continuing story about the lives of ordinary people. The Archers are a family in the imaginary village of Ambridge, a small farming community somewhere in the middle of England. The programme has been broadcast by the BBC since 1951, longer than any other programme of its kind in the world. Many people try and make sure that they never miss it.
