an evening newspaper for London, started in 1827. It has stories on both local and national issues and has a colour supplement, called ES Magazine. It is partly owned by the publishers of the Daily Mail. Since 2009 it has been known officially as the London Evening Standard and in that year it became a free paper in central London.
