the police force responsible for Greater London (except for the City, where the police force is the City of London Police). It was established in 1829 by Sir Robert Peel. Its headquarters (= main offices) have been at New Scotland Yard in Westminster since 1967. In 2013 it was announced that the Met would move to smaller offices which would be called Scotland Yard. see also CID
