a US organization for book reviewers (= people who write articles giving their opinions of new books). It has about 700 members and was established in 1974. In the same year it started presenting the National Book Critics Circle Awards. These are chosen by a group of book reviewers and authors, and given to writers of Fiction, Non-fiction, Biography or Autobiography, Poetry and Criticism.
