a small political party established in Britain in the 1960s by David Sutch (1942-99) who was known as Screaming Lord Sutch. It attracted a lot of publicity during elections because of its strange policies and the humorous appearance of its candidates. Before the general election of 1997 it had a candidate in every election and by-election. Its policies originally concerned rights for young people and some young people voted for it, either as a joke or because they did not support any of the main political parties. Its candidates have in fact won in some local elections. The party's motto is 'Vote for Insanity'.
