a busy square in central Manhattan, New York City. It is known for its bright lights and many theatres and cinemas. On New Year's Eve, thousands of people gather there to watch a ball move down the side of the No 1 Times Square building as the new year approaches. The square is named after the Times Tower, once the offices of the New York Times.
