a member of a Native American people, many of whom live in the US state of Alaska Word Originthe name in Tlingit (the language of the Tlingit people). Culture The Tlingit form the largest group of Native Americans in Alaska. There are about 17 000 Tlingits, and most live along the coast. They have kept many of their traditional skills and live by catching fish, making baskets, carving wood, and weaving.
