a humorous character in a British strip cartoon created by Reg Smythe (1917-1998) which appeared in the Daily Mirror from 1957. The cartoon also appeared in newspapers in the US. Andy Capp drinks a lot, is very lazy, and is unfair to his wife Flo. He always wears a flat cap, which was a traditional working man's piece of clothing, and has a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
