Definition of BT from the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary

an international phone and telecommunications company (officially BT Group plc) based in Britain. The British telephone service used to be run by the Post Office but in 1984 it was sold to private owners as a company called British Telecom. It was the first of Britain's public services to become a private company. In 1991 it changed its name to BT. It is now also an important supplier of broadband and TV services.
