a British company started in 1921 that sells music, film, games and technology products in its stores. HMV stands for ‘His Master's Voice’, and the company used to use on its record label a picture of a small dog listening to an old-fashioned gramophone (= a machine for playing records with a large horn to produce the sound). The company has recently had financial problems and a number of its stores have been closed.
