(1916-) a US film actor well known for playing tough characters. His films include Lust for Life (1956), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957) and Spartacus (1960). In 1990 Douglas received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute and in 1996 a special Oscar for his 50 years in films. He has also written the story of his life and several novels. His son is the actor Michael Douglas.
