a book published once a year in Britain which claims to predict the important events of the next year. It was first published in 1700 by Francis Moore, a London doctor and astrologer (= a person who studies the stars and planets and believes that they can influence people's lives). It is a very popular book, and refers to people and events in such a general way that some people believe that it can really predict the future.
