the name of the family to which all the kings of England from 1154 to 1485 belonged. The first Plantagenet king was Henry II and the last was Richard III. The name came originally from Geoffrey, Count of Anjou in France (1113-51), who was the father of Henry II. The Anjou family symbol was the plant à genêt or broom, a bush with small yellow flowers.
