a member of a Native American people many of whom now live in the US state of Wyoming Word Originof unknown origin. Culture The Shoshone originally lived as hunters in an area stretching from south-eastern California to western Wyoming. About 8 000 still live there on reservations (= lands given and protected by the US government). The Comanche people separated from the Wyoming group of Shoshone.
