an airport in Essex, north-east of London. It was a very small airport until the 1990s, when it became London's third airport. A new airport building, designed by Norman Foster, was opened in 1991. With the growth of low-cost airlines such as Ryanair which use Stansted, the airport expanded to become Britain's fourth busiest airport.
