a golf competition held in the US, in which skilled players are invited to compete Culture The competition is held each year in Augusta, Georgia. It was established in 1934 by Bobby Jones and is the only one of the four major golf tournaments (= sports competitions) that is always held on the same course. The winner receives a special green jacket as well as money.
