a stone column in central London set up in memory of the Great Fire of London in 1666. It was designed by Christopher Wren and built in 1671-7. Its height (202 feet/61.5 metres) is believed to be the distance from the column to the place where the fire started. There are 311 steps up it, which visitors can climb.
