a popular US television drama series about a Mafia family (= involved in organized crime) in New Jersey. It was first shown in 1999 and has since been broadcast in several countries around the world. The show's main character Tony Soprano, played by James Gandolfini, tries to deal with problems with his family and his criminal associates. The show contains a lot of violence and strong language but is also very amusing.
