a US organization set up by George W Bush in 2002 to encourage people to work on a voluntary basis for their country. There are three major programmes within the Freedom Corps: firstly, the Citizen Corps, concerned with safety and anti-terrorism measures in the US; secondly, a programme to increase the number of people helping their local communities; thirdly, an expansion of the Peace Corps programme.
