It was one of the original thirteen colonies, and the American Revolution was ended by the Battle of Yorktown in Virginia. Richmond became the capital of the Confederate States and the Civil War ended at Appomattox Court House. Eight presidents were born in Virginia, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Woodrow Wilson. Local products include tobacco and electrical equipment. Among the tourist attractions are Williamsburg, Mount Vernon and Monticello.
