a design that is often seen on English pottery. It consists of a blue and white picture, in traditional Chinese style, which usually includes people on a bridge over a river, near a willow (= a tree with long thin branches that grows near water). It was first used in Staffordshire pottery in the late 18th century, and is still popular today.
