- the US comic actors Bud Abbott (1895-1974), who was thin and angry, and Lou Costello (1906-59), who was fat and funny. They were most popular as a team in films during the 1940s, making such successes as Buck Privates (1941) and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948).
