  1. (1894-1956) a US scientist who published the first major scientific studies of human sexual behaviour. The results of his research, which shocked many people, came from answers to questions given by 10 000 people. His books were Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (1948) and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female (1953). Together they are called the Kinsey Reports. In 1942 he established the Institute for Sex Research at Indiana University and directed it until his death.
