  1. (1945-81) a Jamaican singer and writer of reggae music who also played the guitar. He formed the Wailers group in 1965 and made reggae widely known around the world. His songs were influenced by his religious beliefs as a Rastafarian and his support of black power. His albums included Burnin'(1973), Rastaman Vibration (1976), Exodus (1977) and Uprising (1980). His early death was caused by cancer.
