Bobby Fischer

- (1943-2008) a US chess player who became the youngest world champion when he defeated the Russian Boris Spassky in 1972. Fischer then stopped playing publicly and in 1975 he lost his title when he refused to play Anatoly Karpov. In 1992 he began again and defeated Spassky in Belgrade, but he rarely competed after that.
