  1. (1965-78) a British child who was murdered in 1978. He was delivering newspapers to a farm and was shot by thieves who were robbing (= stealing from) the house. Four men were arrested and sent to prison because one of them, Patrick Molloy, admitted the murder to a policeman who has since been proved dishonest. Molloy died in prison. The others, who became known as the Bridgewater Three, protested that they were innocent. In 1996 they were set free. see also Birmingham Six, Guildford Four, Tottenham Three
