- (1903-74) an English author and literary critic. His best-known book is The Rock Pool (1935), a novel about artists living in the south of France. He started a literary magazine called Horizon, through which his ideas influenced many writers between 1930 and 1950.“There is no more sombre enemy of good art than the pram in the hall.”
