  1. a large shop in Piccadilly, London, which also contains a restaurant. It began in 1707 and is famous for selling expensive and unusual food, and for its hampers (= large boxes or baskets containing several different types of food and drink). The shop is considered one of the smartest in London and is very popular with tourists. In 2013 it opened a second shop and restaurant at St Pancras International station, and in 2014 it opened a store in Dubai.
