- the official song for welcoming the US President. It is a march played by a band when he enters a room or an outdoor area for an official event. It was first played in 1815 to celebrate both the birthday of George Washington and the end of the War of 1812. The music was written about 1812 by James Sanderson, an Englishman, and the words are by Sir Walter Scott.
