  1. (1886-1968) a British diplomat and the writer of 125 books, of which his Diaries and Letters (1968) is the best known. He was a Member of Parliament from 1935 to 1945, and was made a knight in 1953. He married Vita Sackville-West in 1913, and their marriage survived until her death in 1962 although they both had homosexual affairs.
