- any of the group of hotels owned by the British company Intercontinental Hotels Group. The first Holiday Inn opened in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1952. Holiday Inn is the title of a 1942 film with music by Irving Berlin about a hotel that only opens on public holidays. The song White Christmas was written for the film.
