  1. (1924-64) a US singer of country music, known for his smooth voice. His popular name was 'Gentleman Jim'. He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1955, and his successful records included Four Walls (1957), He'll Have to Go (1959) and Distant Drums (1966). Reeves was killed in a plane crash. In 1967 he was chosen for the Country Music Hall of Fame.
