  1. (1893-1980) a US comic actor and singer with a harsh voice who was called ‘Schnozzola’ because of his large nose. He was a star of vaudeville, radio and television, and ended each show by saying ‘Goodnight, Mrs Calabash, wherever you are,’ although he never revealed who she was. Durante also appeared in many films.
