  1. born Robert Gascoyne-Cecil 1830-1903 a British Conservative (1885-6, 1886-92 and 1895-1902). He helped to increase the power of the British Empire, especially in Africa, and supported the activities of Cecil Rhodes and others. During his final period in power he led Britain in the Boer Wars.
