  1. (1895-1943) a US writer of songs, who with Richard Rodgers created 29 Broadway musical plays, many of which became films. Hart wrote the words and Rodgers the music. Their plays included Babes in Arms (1937) and Pal Joey (1940), and among the songs they wrote were The Lady is a Tramp (1937) and This Can't Be Love (1938).
