  1. a play (1938) by the US writer Thornton Wilder which won a Pulitzer Prize. It is set in the imaginary small town of Grover's Corners and is about the simple lives of ordinary people. A character called the Stage Manager makes comments on the story directly to the audience. The play is still often performed by amateur groups.
