  1. Pearl Sydenstricker Buck (1892-1973) a US author who won the 1938 Nobel Prize for Literature. She wrote mainly about China, where she lived for many years as a Christian teacher. It was the subject of her best-known novel, The Good Earth, for which she received the 1932 Pulitzer Prize. Her other books include East Wind; West Wind (1930), A House Divided (1935) and Dragon Seed (1942).
