Providence

- the capital and largest city of the US state of Rhode Island. It is on the Providence River and Narragansett Bay. Roger Williams established it in 1636 as a safe place for people of all religions. It is known for its silver products and jewellery. Brown University, an Ivy League school, was established there in 1764.
