  1. the most famous US circus. It called itself 'the Greatest Show on Earth' and had three circus rings where people performed at the same time. The five original Ringling brothers started a circus in 1884 and bought their great competitor, the Barnum and Bailey Circus, in 1907. The circus closed in 2017.
