  1. (1924-95) an English writer of plays and films. He first became famous with his play about Thomas More, A Man for All Seasons (1960). He also wrote the script for the film Lawrence of Arabia (1962). Two of his film scripts won Oscars: Dr Zhivago (1965) and A Man for All Seasons (1967).
