- a US rocket used in the 1960s and 1970s to send spacecraft and satellites into space. The original Saturn was developed in 1958 by Wernher von Braun, and it had two rockets used in sequence. Saturn 5 had three rockets and carried 12 million US gallons /45.6 million litres of fuel. It was used for the Apollo program to send men to the moon.
